The History of

Contained herein is the history of the Sarthian Empire and how the Sarthian race evolved. The available
topics are Evolution, Development, Settlement, quelling the Carnivores, contact with the Pterosaurs, and Present.
Evolution:
For reasons yet to be determined, dinosaurs inhabited the world of Sarthia. But as all living things do, their
world changed, and they were forced to evolve to survive. A general decrease in the amunt of free oxygen
favored smaller sizes. The forces of predation favored more intelligent herds of herbivores as well as
herding various distinct species together. For instance herds grew to contain various kinds of herbivores,
as well as a number of small carnivores, those that favored small game, such as lizards and insects. In
order to cope the carnivores were forced to evolve in wits as well to deal with th more wiley herbivores.
As the herbivores grew in number and grazed off the lower vegetation of trees and bushes, the vegetation
responded by growing taller. And the herbivores responded by rearing up more often to reach it, beginning
on the road to a full bipedal stance. Meanwhile the Pterosaurs evolved in the skies, mostly isolated from the
ground dwellers.
Development:
At first, the herbivores herded with their like kinds. As they developed, herds became tribes. And they worked to defend themselves from the more slowly developing, but vicious carnivorous packs. They developed temporary forts and structures to help aid them in their defence, and they became more adept with their natural tools and hereditary equipment. Each of the large species developing a form of martial art that took advantadge of what they had, and made it even more lethal.
Settlement:
The nomadic tribes grew to be too big to be able to sustain themselves through
their seasonal wandering, and they began to settle down in farming communities.
These communities of herbivores were always fortified, at first with walls of logs, and later become castle-like. Meanwhile the carnivores gathered their forces and became better at hunting larger creatures, like ancestral apatosaurs. And when they could, they would raid the settlements and roads between them. From above the pterosaurs continued to watch upon leather wings.
Carnivores:
Then a major turning point came to the world. From one of the communities there
came an Ankylosaur named Bur'Tai. Well trained to defend himself, he had been
a thinker and had been watching the carnivores and their ancestors. And for he
went and attempted the unthinkable. He entered the encampment of the pack of the savage Tyrannosaur, Dahksur, while the majority of the Carnes were still sleepy from a recent meal. Bur'Tai challenged Dahksur in the way that normally one Carne challenges its pack leader. Somewhat surprised and flustered, Dahksur accepted, but in the ensuing claw-to-claw battle, Bur'Tai was victorious. And for the first time ever, a Vege became the Pack leader of a Pack of Carnes. Bur'Tai went on to do this with other Packs as well, bringing the Carnes to heel. The Carnes were rearranged uneasilly into a furter line of defense for the settlements against the remaining rogue packs.
Pterosaurs:
The Pterosaurs had been staying out of all this safely, with their out of reach aeries and their leathery wings. Their culture was completely isolated from that of the Veges and Carnes. And they developed technology first, even so far as advanced weapons, which the large grounddwellers had never had a reason for. First contact between the Pterosaurs and the grounddwellers was performed by a group of curious archaeopteri, who managed to fly up to one of the aeries. Communication was tough at first, but soon they learned each other's language and trade ensued between the terrestrial Sarthians and the Pterosaurs. The 'Teros may have been isolated from the grounddwellers, but they flew far, saw much and had their aerie rivalries and conflicts. Besides, what could the 'backward' grounddwellers do to hurt them in their aeries? 'Tero aeries did eventually grow even atop the squat and solid buildings of the growing Sarthian cities.
Present:
The Sarthians continue to thrive and develop technology, spreading out from the capital of their empire
at Hie'Loth. And the rogue Carne packs still manage to raid and create their own ways and technology.
Now there are cities all around the world, connected with radio and traders. The 'Teros, taken with
their flying transports, have become interested in space, and garnered interest from the
grounddwellers. There have been numerous successful orbital launches so far, and the next effort being
some form of space station or a permanent base on the moon Aralthea.
